I started investing in domain names back in 2006, at that time their was one domain name that I wanted to own, I couldn’t get my hands on… It had already been registered, since 2001.
So back then I didn’t worry about it so much and acquired the matching cctld in my local country .co.uk
On the 11th of January 2008, I reached out the owner and he didn’t respond, I could see it was in use and honestly thought I would be lucky to acquire it…
I let another 5 years pass, reaching out again January 2013 but still no response from the owner…
Fast forward to 2021, I reached out again as I saw the content had been removed from the domain name and it was no longer resolving, and jackpot – I got a reply from the owner…
It’s the exact same email address that we had written too over the past 13 years and had zero replies but finally they come back, we go back and forth on the price of the domain name but ultimately couldn’t agree on a price that we were both willing to pay.
So roll on another year, as I track the domain name I can see it’s hit the expiry cycle, so I back order it with a number of registrars knowing that I most likely won’t just pick it up on the drop should it expired.
Then Jackpot – I get an email from DropCatch.com secured the domain name for $59 bucks… So after 16 years of trying to acquire this two word dot com, I managed to secure it on an expired drop…
So as the headline says, Patience can pay off!
