Technology company IBM has launched a domain name dispute for the domain name Watson.AI in WIPO DAI2023-0029
The domain name appears to be owned by Gary Ramah, It has been registered since 2017
Watson for those that don’t know is IBM Artificial Intelligence computer, it was developed in IBM’s DeepQA project by a research team led by principal investigator David Ferrucci. Watson was named after IBM’s founder and first CEO, industrialist Thomas J. Watson.
First launched in 2011 to answer questions from the popular TV show Jeopardy before being used in a commercial application in 2013, IBM announced that Watson’s first commercial application would be for utilization management decisions in lung cancer treatment in, New York City.
IBM obviously have the dollars to acquire the domain name Watson.ai and there corporate domain name registrar CSC Corporate Domains, Inc. should have been trying to acquire this domain name a long time ago from the .AI registry from a brand protection aspect, Ironically they have post on there website from June named .AI You Ready?
It will be interesting to understand what Gary Ramah will do in this WIPO case, as he has website live on Watson.ai with his art work, will he settle with IBM or let it go through a process that could see him lose it or retain it.

its IBM’s, let it go. ty.
He doesn’t stand a chance against IBM.
Interesting case. His art-themed watson.ai site has a link in the About section to DrWatson software (apparently written around 1997), but it is unclear if he is associated with software or not. If so, that could give him a good claim on the domain. He is big in the AI field, see https://www.linkedin.com/in/garyramah/ and according to https://pr.ai/showthread.php?t=10548 owns a bunch of .ai domains.
It appears that history is repeating itself, with the negotiations breakdown between IBM and Gary Arlen Kildall happening all over again for DOS. The WIPO decision will have a profound impact on the AI industry in the same way as the previous decision shaped the landscape of the pc industry.
