$23bn in 2020 SALES – Syngenta want this .GTLD Domain

Syngenta Group employs 49,000 people across more than 100 countries and on their website state that they strive every day to transform agriculture through tailor-made solutions for the benefit of farmers, society, and our planet – making us the world’s most local agricultural technology and innovation partner.

The powerhouse organization that is Syngenta certainly is no stranger to the WIPO process and even today their website SyngentaGroup.com was won via WIPO back in 2017, when single panelist James Bridgeman awarded Syngenta the domain name SyngentaGroup.com under WIPO case D2017-1147.

During that WIPO case, the Syngenta legal team laid out the Syngenta Trademark and associated domain names relating to their organization.

International trademark SYNGENTA No. 732663 in classes 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 16, 29, 30, 31, 32, 35, 36, 41, and 42, as of March 8, 2000, with designations in jurisdictions including France, Germany, China, the Russian Federation, and Viet Nam among many others.

United States trademark SYNGENTA, registration number 3,036,058, registered on December 27, 2005 for goods and services in international classes, 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 16, 29, 30, 31, 32, 35, 36, 41 and 42.

The Complainant also owns a number of domain names incorporating the SYGENTA mark including Syngenta.com, Syngenta-us.com, Syngenta.co>, Syngenta.co.uk, Syngenta.fr, Syngenta.de, Syngenta.cn, Syngenta.ru and Syngenta.vn

Fast forward four years and this month, Syngenta has decided they would also like to own this domain name hack Syngenta.Group which is currently listed for sale at Dan.com for $2,800 USD, The domain name was registered in October 2020, and appears that the Syngenta legal team doesn’t want to pay for the domain name but instead raise a WIPO case which has been risen under WIPO Case D2021-3326.

Syngenta Participations AG has risen 18 cases since 2002 and won the majority of these, I do however wonder why not just pay the $2,800 USD and own this domain name rather than go down the WIPO route which is going to cost Syngenta a significantly higher cost than the $2,800 USD via there legal team.

I personally think Syngenta shareholders would see more value in securing the domain name for less than $3,000 USD vs the legal fee that will be charged back to the company for the time spent on this domain name.

The outcome of this WIPO case has still to be decided and might not even land in there favor…
