Binance Holdings Limited has lost domain name dispute case DAU2020-0009 and I think the owners have an RDNH case to go back and fight for it… Do you?
So who are Binance Holdings Limited? Binance is a cryptocurrency exchange that provides a platform for trading various cryptocurrencies. As of January 2018, Binance was the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world in terms of trading volume.
Binance was found by Changpeng Zhao, a developer who had previously created high-frequency trading software. Binance was initially based in China, but later moved out of China due China’s increasing regulation of cryptocurrency.
They operate on the domain name Binance.com and decided to go after the domain name Binance.com.au and LOST! – The WIPO complaint was denied.
Now visit the website of Binance.com.au, we can see it’s operating a florist service so I don’t see any confusing similarity between an online Florist and Cryptocurrency exchange, can you?
While the case notes haven’t been published yet and Binance might dispute the decision, I can’t understand how anyone visiting this site would be confused and see any connection between the two organisations, The owner of Binance.com.au appears to be Tell Media PTY who operates a web development agency and yes they could have just registered the domain name and put a florist site up hoping Binance would attempt to acquire it to protect the brand in a local cctld, however, let’s not assume that was the case and ask the question of why didn’t they just pay up to buy it if they are the largest trading crypto platform, what do you think?
A quick search on GoDaddy and you can see they haven’t protected the brand as you can register tons of Binance Names, this was there first WIPO case from what I can see and it might not be there last either, but Binance if you are reading this – Click here and register all the available Binance Available Domain Name Terms, it will save you a lot more in the long run…
