Everyone in the world right now (basically) knows about Zoom, Since COVID-19 happened and the world went into lockdown Video Calling either for business or pleasure many times known as let’s arrange a “Zoom Call” even when using Microsoft Team, Skype, WhatsApp etc… Zoom is now one of the more common terms said when wanting to arrange a video chat – The company has raised over $130,000,000 Million US Dollars in Venture Capital and is kicking ass in terms of owning the video conference calling market right now.
Who is Eric Yuan, he is the founder and CEO of Zoom a Chinese-American billionaire businessman worth an estimate $7.8 Billion Dollars which will probably rise this year due to the global success of Zoom and the share price continuing to climb even though the company only makes a modest profit in the last financial quarter of $21 Million Dollars, Eric’s 22% shares in Zoom is guaranteed to climb in the next quarterly Results due today which will show significant user growth even though profits might be diluted due to the investment required to grow so rapidly.
Prior to founding Zoom, Eric was corporate vice president of engineering at Cisco, where he was responsible for Cisco’s collaboration software development. Eric was one of the founding engineers and vice president of engineering at Webex. Between 1997 and 2011, he grew his team from 10 engineers to more than 800 worldwide and contributed to revenue growth from $0 to more than $800M.
In the domain circle, we all know that Zoom.US was the domain name the company choose to use for many years and only recently acquired the domain name Zoom.com for a cool 7 figure sum of $2,000,000 back in 2018 via Media Options and they have chosen to forward the domain name to Zoom.us instead of rebranding which makes sense as the company is already highly successful.
Some have said the success of Zoom branding on a .US domain name has given the .US domain extension a chance to shine once again and become an alternative to the usual startups using .io, .co over the past few years.
I was checking out what other Domain Names that Zoom Communications owns and was shocked to see that the public whois record history for Zoom.US showed only until very recently that the personal email address of Eric Yuan, the Zoom CEO, you can clearly see eric*********@gmail.com as the email address back in March 2020, it has since been changed to Bill Lu who is the chief architect of Zoom Communications and reflects his corporate email address.
I have blocked the email address from view here to protect Eric Yuan privacy and I wonder if he actually still uses his Gmail account, I suspect someone else must have spotted recently and realised it wasn’t safe or secure to have the founder & CEO personal Gmail address on view to anyone who knows how to use Whois lookup.
Was this a surprise for you to read, I was shocked and genuinely would have expected the whois to be private or using a company like Mark Monitor, CSC Corporate or Safe Names etc to protect the privacy and the domain name portfolio of Zoom Communications.
The screengrab below reflecting the whois details back in 2020 (Phone & Email Address) removed for privacy reasons the address is the corporate HQ of Zoom Communications Inc.
the app is telling me bullshit and saying that unable to connect , but when i reconnect it says that wait for the host to add you to the meeting
Thanks, Isaac, you do realize this is a blog post, not Zoom, you shall need to reach out to ZOOM.com – Thanks
