Hard Drives are in so many devices these days, you would think there has to be an opportunity here to make some money with the exact match domain name HardDrives.com available at Epik for outright purchase of $285,000 USD or Lease Option of only $500 per month.
While $500 per month might seem like a lot of money, could you open a brick and mortar store and pay $500 per month for rent in a prime location?
I highly doubt… However, you could have the ultimate matching domain name and build an online business for only $500.00 per month – $6,000 USD per year – It’s peanuts really… Yes I know you don’t own the domain and its only a lease but if you can build something that helps you to justify paying $285,000 then wouldn’t the risk or gamble of paying $500 bucks to try and build an online business be worth it?
If you were starting out today in domain names and planned to build a business, could this be a category you would consider getting into? Let’s look even at a basic affiliate program using Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk as an example for Hard Drives.
Bestselling Hard Drives
The Number 1 – Bestselling Hard Drive on Amazon.com Today is the Seagate BarraCuda 2TB Internal Hard Drive HDD – 3.5 Inch SATA 6Gb/s 7200 RPM 256MB Cache 3.5-Inch – Frustration-Free Packaging (ST2000DM008), The cost is $50.99 – If you are an affiliate and sell one of these drives you would earn 2.5% Commission which equals – $1.27 not huge but that is one item, the likely hood someone visiting the site could go on and purchase more items in their amazon cart and drive that commission upwards but you would need to sell 394 hard drives per month to break even.
The Number 1 – Bestselling Portable Hard Drive on Amazon.com Today is the WD 2TB Elements Portable External Hard Drive – USB 3.0 – WDBU6Y0020BBK, The cost is $59.79 – If you are an affiliate and sell one of these drives you would again earn 2.5% commission which equals – $1.49 per unit sold.
Now let’s flip it and look at selling on Amazon.co.uk for a minute, as remember by owning the domain HardDrives.com you get to look at the global audience not just a local audience with traffic from across the world.
In the UK you get 3% commission currently in the category and for the purposes of showing this back in USD – I shall use an FX rate of £1.00 = $1.24 at Today’s currency rate.
The Number 1 – Bestselling Hard Drive on Amazon.co.uk Today is also the Seagate 2 TB BarraCuda 3.5 Inch Internal Hard Drive (7200 RPM, 256 MB Cache, SATA 6 Gb/s, Up to 220 MB/s, Model: ST2000DMZ08/DM008) – The cost is £69.04 – 3% Commission equals £2.07 or $2.56 per unit sold, which is $1.29 more than in the USA, therefore the volume is down to less than 200 units to cover your $500 cost on the lease.
Again I can do this for the different marketplaces around the globe that Amazon as just one selection shows you the opportunity on how you could earn money using the domain name HardDrives.com, now I am not saying this is easy… You do need to build a business here to make it sustainable, look at partnerships outwith Amazon for where you could earn commission and understand the demand in different markets, what am I trying to show people out there though for only $500 per month you could start to build a business online, right now today sitting at home, not being reliant on your store being open as eCommerce never closes…
What are everyone else’s thoughts, did you know there are more domains like this in the marketplace today available to build and grow for a relatively low cost, leave a comment below or message me directly.

How could anyone make a profit off that name with a 2.5% margin?
I agree profit would be small, if you solely just had 2.5% off small volumes as an affiliate but if you sell other products that complement the range you can have more success. That is a affiliate model if you eventually took stock and sold your own inventory the margins improve dramatically but of course you have a cash flow impact.
