Happy Thanks Giving to all of my readers celebrating today, I thought it would be interesting to share the story of ThanksGiving.com
ThanksGiving.com has been registered since 29th of December 1997, it is currently owned by Gannett Media Corp.
It was a domain name once owned by DigiMedia from legendary domain name and watermelon farmer Scott Day.
Back in 1998 you can see this screen grab from Archive.org when ThanksGiving.com was forwarded to DigiMedia.com
Then we can see in 2003 it was parked on the DigiMedia Parking Platform which you can see on this screen grab below for ThanksGiving.com
It continued to be parked at DigiMedia for close to another decade and I am sure earned some healthy PPC revenues over that time but sometime between December 2013 and April 2014, the whois data updated on ThanksGiving.com and went under domain name privacy with the nameservers updating, we can only assume at this time DigiMedia sold the domain name.
The domain name appeared to have been acquired by Grateful Ventures and by Thanks Giving 2014 a full developed website was live on Thanksgiving.com which you can see below the screen grab in 2014.
Grateful Ventures was Phoenix-based and founded in 2014, it drew an online monthly audience of about 8.5 million to its holiday food site Thanksgiving.com, FoodBlogs.com social media hub, and Food Blog Stars network (sites include Budget Bytes and Divas Can Cook).
In 2017 Gannett, which owns USA TODAY and 109 local news properties, became a majority investor in Grateful Ventures, the domain name remained online in its own developed website until 2019 when it began to forward to $4.99* .COM Domains! Get going with GoDaddy!
Since 2021 the domain name changed strategy yet again and now ThanksGiving.com forwards to $4.99* .COM Domains! Get going with GoDaddy! which you can see below:
