SPACESHIP.COM - UNBEATABLE $4.98 Dot Com Domain Registrations

Happy Friday Folks, how has your week been? It’s hot here in the UK and that weather we are not used to… It’s in the low to high 30 Deg C, now I know that might not be hot for a lot of you but for a country that’s not used to these temperatures and our homes don’t have AC… As Nelly would say, “It’s getting hot in here”.

Anyway back to the domain names, I was completing more research similar to the unpublished sales, I shared yesterday for ACNE.COM, ARTHRITIS.COM, CHOLESTEROL.COM, EPILEPSY.COM, IMPOTENCE.COM, OBESITY.COM,

PHYSICIANS.COM, CANCER.COM, NURSING.COM, DIABETES.COM, DEPRESSION.COM, INFERTILITY.COM,

FERTILITY.COM, and ALZHEIMERS.COM, that had gone unpublished we have now discovered two past sales from 2002 for the domain names Hockey.com & Vegetarian.com.

Both domain names sold for what again appears to be really low values in today’s money but just think 20 years ago we were not hearing about multi-million dollar sales, you didn’t have a domain name community sharing the news and stories, and some lucky but smart investors got some great value domain names.

Hockey.com was sold on March 21, 2002, for $200,000 which at the time was noted as a gain on the sale of $58,800 has been recognized in Domain Name Revenue, net of the carrying value of hockey.com of $141,200.

Vegetarian.com was sold on May 114, 2002 for $60,000 which at the time was noted the loss on the sale of $81,200 has been recognized in Domain Name Revenue, net of the carrying value of vegetarian.com of $141,200.

Can you believe the prices these sold for, it’s pretty amazing… Hockey.com went on to become a website selling Hockey Equipment that you can see in the screenshot below from Archive.org and Vegetarian.com turned into a blog for a period of time.

Fast forward 20 years and you can buy Hockey.com, It’s for sale right now but it’s little more than $200,000 USD, The domain name is being brokered by EverGreen.com and has an asking price of $5,500,000 USD, that’s right you could own Hockey.com for $5.5M which I still think is a solid price considering the NHL brought in over $4.7 Billion Dollars in revenue!
